Music Ministries
Support Our Mission
The mission of Music Ministries at St. John of the Cross Parish is to proclaim the gospel message through sung prayer, thereby fostering faith by drawing our community “into the divinely inspired voice of the Church at prayer” (STL, No. 5). At the core of this ministry are nearly 100 dedicated musicians, both volunteers and professionals. There is a place for every parishioner to participate: as a choir member, instrumentalist, cantor, or participant in congregational song.

Contemporary Ensemble
This group of singers, drums, guitars, and other instruments leads the best in contemporary worship music weekly at the Saturday 4 p.m. Mass, and rehearses on Thursday evenings.
Traditional Choir
This choir sings choral classics along with traditional hymns weekly at the Sunday 11 a.m. Mass, and rehearses on Wednesday evenings.
Resurrection Choir
The Resurrection Choir leads singing at funeral and memorial Masses. Any adult singer whose schedule permits availability on some weekday and Saturday mornings is welcome and invited. Brief rehearsals take place prior to each individual funeral, and seasonal rehearsals are scheduled periodically throughout the year. The presence of the choir at every funeral is a symbol of care for our entire community and their song is a great support to both grieving families and to the liturgy itself.
Cantor Ministry
Experienced singers lead our parish family in song at all weekend parish liturgies as well as holy day Masses, Holy Week liturgies, funerals, weddings and other sacramental moments. Music reading ability is strongly recommended. For those who have never served as cantors before, spending a few months as a member of the Choir or Ensemble is recommended.
Children's Choirs
The Church calls us to foster in young people the joy of singing and making music. At St. John of the Cross, we are committed to forming the music ministers of tomorrow while having fun singing music from the rich tradition of the Catholic Church along with newly composed music and music representing the diverse cultures which form the Church.
